Rain continues to come Even with more rain in the forecast, officials are trying to get a handle on how much damage was done by Wednesday night's storm. Code Enforcement Officers from the Town of Arcadia (Chuck Verkey) and Village of Newark (Mark Peake) are being assisted today by their counterparts from Penfield, Williamson and Lyons. But even while they were meeting in the 2nd floor courtroom of the Municipal Building, the skies turned black and another downpouring of rain began to fall. Calls began coming in again for firemen to pump out standing water in basements, and some Newark residents were without power shortly after 10 a.m. The Code officers are touring the area with officials from the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO). The officials are separated into four teams, and will try to determine the cost of repairs to certain properties. If you wish to report damage, or want officials to come look at your property, call the municipal offices. If you live inside the Village of Newark, call 331-4770. If you live in the Town of Arcadia outside the village, call 331-1222. Arcadia Supervisor Joe DeSanto is not yet sure about the farmers and what type of aid they may be eligible for. A damage report is being constructed by local agricultural officials. Much of the damage from standing water can not be determined until the water levels recede. Meanwhile, Wal-Mart and the P&C are both open for business. And strong thunderstorms are moving this way...
