Did everyone enjoy Halloween? I always enjoy giving candy to the kids - especially the tiny ones who can barely see out of their costumes. They aren't really sure what's going on, but they do enjoy the candy that goes into the pumpkin bucket, don't they? Janet Leschhorn came up for a visit, not long ago. It was nice to see her. Next time, she will have to bring up the kids to visit, too. Janet was beginning a new job the following Monday. I spoke to Eileen Hooper the other day. Her mom, Betty, is in New York visiting family and meeting her new granddaughter. Brian is in Kentucky on a trip for school. The day I spoke to her, Bobby and Susie were wandering around the park at Disney. Eileen is working on the island they have the Fantasmic Show on, and she keeps all the characters looking their best. Since the show is on the island, she gets to go for two boat rides every day. Eileen said the weather on Sunday was in the upper 80's. Carol Dwyer and her family, friends and neighbors can now breathe a sigh of relief. Now that the sniper has been caught, the people in her area can go back to living their lives again. It must have been horrible! Now their families can enjoy the fall activities they otherwise had to cancel. Carol had mentioned how much she'd love an apple from Wayne County again. The Williamson Library Lap-Sit Storytime will be Monday, November 4 and 11. An adult must stay with the children during the session. The Pre-School Storytime finished up on October 30. Carol Garland of the Sodus Free Library is visiting her beautiful granddaughter in Illinois. Julia is now 9 weeks old and Carol mentioned how beautiful she is many times (a loving grandma.) The Sodus Free Library will be holding their annual book sale on Thursday, Nov. 7 from noon to 8; Friday, Nov. 8 from noon to 5; and Saturday, November 9 from l0-l. The Apple Shed is taking orders for pies for Thanksgiving now. Sounds like a good plan. They have cider daily and doughnuts on Saturdays and Sundays until Thanksgiving. The new hours, starting today (November 1) will be M-F, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat.-Sun. 9 to 5. Nowadays, when you walk in the stores and find the Christmas things, including the trees fully decorated, sitting on the shelves next to the Halloween candy and decorations, you wonder why they just don't wait for a few weeks. It seems a little early to be thinking about getting your Christmas tree, but you can go to the tree farms and tag a tree now and pick it up later. We used to go during the winter and it was so cold... and with snow on the trees, it's harder to pick out the 'perfect' tree. What I found was that in going earlier, when the weather isn't so cold and snowy, you can take your time without getting frost bite. It's easier to look at the trees and it's one less thing you have to worry about doing during a busy time. When you pick it out earlier there's less stress about finding the tree right away. You have plenty of time. November and December - Pick your Own Christmas Tree at Carl's Christmas Tree Farm, 3347 Rte. 88 N., Newark. Call 331.2227.
