Scouting for Food this weekend

The Scouting for Food Boy Scout U.S.A. food drive will be held this Saturday, November 9.

This year there will be some important changes in the way the drive will be conducted. Unlike past years, there will be NO BAGS dropped off on doorsteps the week prior to the collection date.

Due to cut-backs of local businesses who supplied bags and boxes, these supplies will not be available to the Scouts.

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will go door-to-door, on Saturday, November 9, beginning at 9 a.m. to collect non-perishable food items for the food closet. You may leave donations on your doorstep, in a plastic bag or box of your choosing, or wait for the Cub and Boy Scouts to knock on your door for donations.

Last year Scouting for Food donations contributed 165 cases of food to the Newark Food Closet. This is one of the largest contributors of food throughout the year to the food closet, which depends solely upon donations from individuals and groups for its supply of food. With an increasing number of businesses cutting back or closing in our area, the demand on the Newark Food Closet will likely increase this winter. Your donations are needed.

At this time, canned vegetables are the one item not needed. Canned fruits, peanut butter, juice, spaghetti sauce, cereal, etc. are especially needed.
