Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

While the weather was nice this week, I hurried outside to hang the Christmas lights. (They actually look like an adult hung them up this year.) Now I'm anxious to turn them on... hard to believe Thanksgiving is just next week. Thanksgiving night those lights will be on at my house, perhaps I will get a timer and surprise myself when I come home that night after visiting family and friends.

I received an e-mail encouraging people to make comments about the closing of Myers Hospital to Senator Hillary Clinton and visit her website at http://clinton.senate.gov

I am surprised by the announcement that the Sodus hospital would be closing. I had both of my children at Myers and spent a week there after having an automobile accident. It was nice to have the hospital so close. I always found the staff to be considerate. Having an emergency room close to home was a great comfort. I'm sorry to hear it's closing, perhaps writing to the Senator could make a difference. (Thank you, Mary, for sending this along.)

Isn't it fun to read about the Twins Cara and Rhian Morgan who have advanced to the next level for the American Idol show? The girls are from Walworth. It'll be fun to watch girls from the area as they compete. Who knows? One of them could be the next Kelly Clarkson! And people in Wayne County can say they knew the girls when they weren't famous.

There will be a Craft & Bake Sale at First Baptist Church in Newark tomorrow (Nov. 23).

On November 25, there will be an Adult CPR Class at the Wayne County Chapter American Red Cross from 6-9:30 p.m., l65 E. Union St., Newark.

November 23-25, you can visit Aman's Nursery on Alderman Rd. in Macedon. There will be Holiday Wagon Rides, you can cut your own tree , visit with Santa and have a free candy cane. For more info, call 800.527.65l0

PEACE is a group at Sodus School, with Advisors, Jennifer Gibson & Martha Parker. The club's goal is to help students and others celebrate and explore the beauty of their diversity and similarity as a community. They share information with their school that highlights the accomplishments of peoples of all races. They sponsor Graffiti Night (an amateur talent revue show). They look forward to sponsoring more multi-cultural events for the school. They have fund raisers several times a year, and are always looking for new members. Please sign up to join them.

Santa's Snow Cat by Sue Stainton. You and your child will not only enjoy the text, but the illustrations are absolutely beautiful. There are many scenes of New York City.

The Beautiful Christmas Tree by Charlotte Zolotow

The Tree That Came to Stay by Anna Quinlen

Thanksgiving Wish by Michael J. Rosen

A fun Christmas project to make your gifts even more special....cut shapes such as snowmen, holly leaves, or mittens from construction paper. Write 'to' and 'from' to make special gift tags to add to the boxes.

If you have a group you'd like the Community to know about, or an event that is important to you, it is important to us, too. Please write to me at
