Missing Sodus

We spent time making a new Christmas Tradition this weekend - one you and your children can start as well. We went to the craft store and picked up some of the little ornaments that are made from bisque and wood. We got some paint to decorate them with and lots of glitter and spent the afternoon making little sleds, Santa's, mittens and such. They are fun to make and a great family way to get ready for the holiday. (I'm sure you can find them at the department stores.) Also, don't forget - plain popped corn strung together in a garland is great for the tree and fun to work on together.

I received this from Melanie Pike and thought it was a neat addition to the Thanksgiving Celebration: (It came with a little bag with 5 pieces of candy corn in it... I guess you could use real corn...) Thanksgiving Message: The first winter the Pilgrims spent in America was very cold. Some days all they had was enough for each person to have only FIVE kernels of Corn. When spring came the Pilgrims planted their corn and it grew, so they had a lot of food the next year. From that time on at Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims each kept five kernels of corn at their plates to remind them of God's provision. This candy corn reminds us of the meaning of THANKSGIVING. The first kernel reminds us that God loves us. The second kernel reminds us that God provides for all our needs. The third kernel reminds us of the friends God has given us just as the American Indians were friends to the Pilgrims. The fourth kernel reminds us of all the people God has given us who love us. The fifth kernel reminds us that God hears our prayers and answers us.

A different way to make paper chains: instead of using construction paper, how about using different types of wrapping paper. Years ago, we made some from colorful pages in magazines. Maybe mix both ideas. They can be hung everywhere... the kids can decorate their rooms.

Here are a few fun stories for the Holiday:

Country Angel Christmas by Tomie dePaola

Where Is Christmas, Jesse Bear by Nancy White Carlstrom

Christmas With Teddy Bear by Jaqueline McQuade

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, enjoying your families as well as the wonderful food. We all have much to be thankful for.
