Huckleberry Swamp opens this weekend

It's a day of family fun with the grand opening of Huckleberry Swamp - Wayne County's beautiful nature preserve and wildlife observation area.

The fun takes place this Saturday, October 5, with tours and other activities from 10 to 2. Visitors are welcome to stay until the park closes at 5 p.m.

Huckleberry Swamp is located on Catchpole Road in North Rose. To get there from Route 104, turn south on Brick Schoolhouse Road and take it until it ends at Catchpole Road. Turn right on Catchpole and Huckleberry Swamp is ahead on the left.

Guided tours along a beautiful boardwalk will take visitors through the heart of the open Swamp, shrub wetland, forested wetland, and hardwood forest. The free event also will feature a nature scavenger hunt and other fun activities for kids to enjoy. Refreshments will be served.

Huckleberry Swamp is a project of the Olga Fleisher Ornithological Foundation, Inc. (OFOF), a non-profit foundation established to preserve habitats for birds and other wildlife.
