cute little girl Open House at Fairville Fire Hall

This past Sunday, young and old gathered for the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department Open House.

Many enjoyed rides on 'Alfie,' Fairville's 1924 American LaFrance fire truck. Driver Rich Jordan took them for rides along Route 88.

People wandered around enjoying the fish-fry sandwiches, sausages, hots, burgers and French fries.

Displays of fire apparatus from the 1910 Chemical Cart, to the newest of the department's vehicles, were available for inspection. There were videotapes, fire hats, cider and donuts for all.

The Explorers had many handouts for the kids, and 'Sparky' from the Newark F.D. paid a visit.

Past Chief Harold Jordan had two tables filled with photo albums of fire calls and activities from years gone by. He has photos of Fairville in the early 1900's.

dalmation dog Firefighters' turn-out gear was on display and the parts were explained. Children were told that when there is a fire and they hear the 'funny air sound' and see someone going through the house, call out to them - do not hide.

Peg and Mike Pelletier had their dog Pepper demonstrate the 'Stop-Drop-Roll' routine, so important when there is a fire. Bill Liddle talked about the Wayne County Advanced Life Support Response Vehicle. And many took advantage of a Child Seat Inspection.

Take time during this Fire Prevention Week to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and discuss escape routes with your children.
