Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

How was everyone's first day back at school? My kids went on Thursday and then felt they definitely needed another week to prepare for it.

Did you go to the last movie at the Great Sodus Bay Screen? Hopefully they were such a big hit, Andrew Ramsey and the Village of Sodus Point will have them again next year.

Don't forget the Kraft Shack's l4th Annual Kraft Carnival this Saturday (Sept. 7) from l0 to 4. There will be many great crafts to make, as well as great sales. Classes will begin soon. If you would like to have a craft project but can not attend a class, they will gladly make it for you for an extra $5.

Sunday (September 8), the Wallington Fire Department will be having their fall Bog and Grog from noon to 5 p.m.

Sunday is also Grandslam Day at Sodus Point Ball Park - that's the grand finale of the County's Fishing Derby. Be there 11 to 2.

Also on Sunday: The African Carribbean Festival at B. Forman Park in Pultneyville from noon to 6 p.m. A celebration of the people and culture of the African Diaspora.

September 11 It's difficult to believe an entire year has passed since the tragedy of 9/11. It seems like yesterday our world changed. There are many ways people are going to remember that day and the people who were lost. Lyons will be having many services. Check that story here.

In Newark, bells will ring at appropriate times. I know the Churches here, as well, will be having memorial services and the schools will be having moments of silence at specific times.

I know many of you will have you own ways to remember such a tragic day in our history. Neighbors could get together with candles, hang out your flags, e-mail a letter to one of the people who are serving to keep us safe, say a silent prayer just to mention a few.

On the Digital Edition, we will have special pictures on the Photo Gallery. Some NYC pictures from our family collection will be included, as well as some from local men serving overseas. The Courier-Gazette print edition Editor, Sandi Marcano, recently returned from the Shanksville, PA crash site, near her hometown of Latrobe. Some of those pictures will also be included. The Photo Gallery will change at least twice next week so that many photos can be viewed. In the print edition, there will be fewer pictures, but the Sept. 13 paper will be printed in full color.

Did you see the Democrat and Chronicle article about Carolyn Adriaansen, who writes for the Courier-Gazette? You can see her Marion column posted here every Friday along with mine. (She is amazing... another one who takes really good vitamins... always busy.)

I'd like to hear what you have going on in your lives. I'm sure many who used to live in the Wayne County area, who get homesick living far away, would love to know what's going on.

If you would like to add to the column please write to me at

Have a great week, and remember... the best time to get the new Holiday books from the libraries is before the actual holiday. Just think - it won't be long until everyone is going for wagon rides and doing fun fall activities. Let me know what your favorite activity is for fall. Hope to hear from you soon.
