Marion girls place second at soccer tourney

The Marion Black Knights placed second in the Newark Girls Soccer varsity tournament on August 31.

Twins Gabrielle and Brittany Peters are pictured.

In their first game on Friday, August 30, Marion advanced to the finals with a 2-0 win over the Waterloo Indians. Brittany Peters opened the scoring with a lone first half goal. Trista DeGelleke added an insurance marker in the final 40 minutes for the win. Goalkeeper Korie Baker stopped six shots in the win.

Pictured on the field are Marion's Mary Boerman and Newark's Samantha Jock.

In the championship game, Newark defeated the Marion unit by a score of 2-0. Marion managed to out-shoot Newark 20-10 in the game.

Krystal Adriaansen, Chrissy DeFisher and Brittany Peters made the All Tournament Team.
