Writing workshops in Newark

Do you write poetry or fiction? Would you like to meet other young writers in the area?

The Newark Public Library announces the 'Newark Emerging Writers Series Poetry & Fiction Workshops for Young Adults.' There are eight fall sessions of poetry and fiction workshop in a supportive discussion of the writing craft.

Workshops begin October 5 and continue for eight consecutive weeks, ending on Saturday, November 23. The Fiction workshop will meet 10:30 to noon, followed by the Poetry workshop 1-2:30.

Workshop coordinator Charles F. Burm has instructed students in composition, communication skills, contemporary and traditional fiction and poetry, and creative writing at the City University of New York and New York University and is currently teaching composition and creative writing at Monroe Community College in Rochester.

Writers can obtain an application at any Wayne County Library, the Newark and Main Campuses of FLCC, or at the Newark High School Library. Enrollment is limited and admission is by application only. Writing samples must be submitted with the application.

Applications must be received no later than Saturday, September 21. Fee per eight-week workshop: $30.
