Missing Sodus The weather did a complete turn around didn't it? Time to get out the warmer clothes, but don't get rid of the shorts and tee shirts yet - Saturday will be in the 80's. We all needed a rest from the heat. Everyone is back to school and the clubs at the schools begin again. The Sodus Intermediate School has quite a few clubs. One is the Recycling Club, which will go around the school once a month to collect things. Last year (they should be proud to say), they collected over 3 l/2 tons of white paper alone. Good for them and keep up the good work. Tuesday, September l7, is Girl Scout Registration night in the cafeteria. It's from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Scouting is a great learning experience and a lot of fun. (Seems like yesterday we were registering.) Tonight is the Lyons Cemetery Walk. Call the Wayne County Historical Society for more information, 946.4943 and check out the link. On Sunday, September 15, there will be a Motorcycle Ride. You can sign up at the Wayne County Motorcycle Club on Rte. 31 Also on Sunday, the Wallington Fire Department will have the Bog and Grog for ATVs from noon to 5 p.m. Sounds like a fun event to watch. For the Leaf Peepers (there are many of us), mark your calendars - the Fall Foliage Train rides will begin Sunday, September 29. In this day and age, it's nice to spend some family time riding the rails and enjoying the pretty leaves. Heritage Square will be having their General Meeting on September l8 at 7 p.m. at the meeting house. The eight buildings of the Heritage Square Museum are open for guided tours from l:30 - 4 p.m. each day and every weekend until the end of September. A tribute to the Mexican Farmworkers on or near Mexican Independence Day will be Sunday, September l5 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Sodus Primary School on Rt. 88 in Sodus. It's always fun to learn about other people and their cultures. Have you always wanted to learn how to crochet? Well, the Kraft Shack is the place for you to be on the next three Tuesdays. You can learn to crochet on September l7, 24 and October l from 6:30 -8:30 p.m. You must attend all three nights. $35 includes the instruction, one skein of yarn and your crochet hook. (Just think of all the nice Christmas gifts you can make for people this year after taking the class.) If crocheting isn't your thing, or you already know how, you can learn to knit instead. Three Thursdays: Sept. l9, 26 and Oct. 3 from 6:30 - 8:30 you can learn. Do you want to know how to knit like your Grandmother? Then please sign up for these classes, again you must attend all three nights. $35 includes instruction one skein of yarn and one set of knitting needles As always, I greatly appreciate all the info that you send in my direction. When you write to me, it's a great way for me to keep up on what's going on in Sodus. I know I miss out on a lot, as do many who have moved away but read the column to find out what's going on. It's fun to think about the town and the things that are going on - kind of like a letter from home. Anytime you have an event you'd like to share, please feel free to write to me at I look forward to hearing from you, you know me - I like to be in the middle of things. Have a great week and enjoy your weekend with your families. Miniature golf sounds like a plan for this weekend... or a trip to the library for some seasonal books.
