Bass tourney a success

The morning of August 25 proved sunny and cool, which was a perfect start to the Americans United Open Bass Tournament held at the Erie Canal Widewaters. Twenty-three anglers including Jason Carleton, a professional angler from Rochester and host of the 'I'd Rather Be Fishin' Radio show (www.idratherbefishin.net) was on hand to compete with some of the local boys.

Jason wanted to introduce his ten-year-old son, Ben, to tournament fishing. He introduced him in a big way! Jason and his son landed their three-fish limit of 11.54 pounds to win the event! The pair fished for 8 hours.

Second place honors went to John Hoefen of Farmington and Rob Huntley of Newark with a three-fish limit of 8.25 pounds. Third place was awarded to Larry Peters of Newark and his Newark partner, Gary Skinner. Larry also won 'Big Bass' honors with a 4.38 pound largemouth!

In addition to cash prizes for the top finishers, many took home raffle prizes ranging from free pizza to tournament fishing vests. Everyone received generous gift packs from Gary Yamamoto Custom Bait Company.

The Second Annual Americans United Open Bass Tournament raised $165 for the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross. The event was organized by Frank Thomas of Marion.
