Firefighters attend Drill School Several departments from Wayne County attended the 36th Annual Firefighter Drill School held at Old Forge, from September 12-15. These included Fairville, Sodus Point, North Rose and Pultneyville. Over 200 attended the school this year. Fairville won the trophy for oldest apparatus, circa 1910 Obenchain-Boyer Chemical Cart. Pictured are Bob Jordan, Sue Jordan, Kim Wood, Logan Muster, Floyd Johnson, Teena Johnson. Classes offered were Fire Police Certification and Live Fire Training Safety Course 1A. The Swiftwater First Responder course had to be cancelled because of low water. Friday morning was dedicated to Thermal Imaging and its use. The afternoon was spent using the heat sensor cameras in a smoke house and in the 75-foot aerial bucket. This life-saving tool is important to all departments not only for rescue and hot spot detection at the fire scene, for hazardous materials incidents, but also search and rescue in the field. Friday evening the firematics competition was held with waterball. The featured speaker and instructor for the Thermal Imaging is Doug Kline from Chapel Hill, NC. He discussed the issues of how to respond to terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. Cline is a Level II Fire Instructor, EMT Paramedic, National Fire Academy Instructor, EMT-Paramedic Instructor Coordinator/Examiner for North Carolina. He has had many articles published and is on the text review committee for Emergency Care. He also has created a video series for Rapid Intervention Teams.
