Arcadia, Rose win $400,000 grants
The $400,000 grant for Arcadia will be used to assist the Town in the creation of Water District #7, to improve the quality and availability of water for residents. The project consists of installing 57,500 feet of water main, one booster pumping station, gate valves, hydrants, and pavement restoration. The new water district includes an area north of the Village of Newark, along Ryder, Sleight, Welcher, Arcadia-Zurich-Norris, Fairville Station, Norsen and Coleman Hill Roads; and an area south and east of the Village along Vienna Street, Sweed and Silver Hill Roads. More than 500 Arcadia residents will be served by this new water district. It is the largest district the town has ever created. The $400,000 grant for Rose will be used to improve and expand Water District Extension No. 5. The project includes construction of additional waterlines on Miner, Covell and Catchpole Roads, connecting at either end to existing waterlines. A new water line will also be installed on Lasher Road. Forty-eight households will be served. The Governor's Office for Small Cities provides funding to eligible towns, villages and cities with a population of under 50,000, and counties with a population. under 200,000, for various housing, economic development and public facilities projects that improve the overall quality of life for residents of the communities. Joe DeSanto, Arcadia Supervisor, thanked Senator Nozzolio, Assemblyman Oaks and Congressman Reynolds for helping secure the grant. 'We're going to make 527 people very happy. These people have wanted water for a long time. And after this district is done, we're going to continue to create more districts and make more people happy.' DeSanto said Thursday morning that it is always difficult to predict when work will begin on such a project because of all the government regulations that must be followed. He added, though, that if things run smoothly from here, the project could begin in late spring - the same time slated for work to start on Water District 6.
