Savannah Potato Fest this weekend

More than 80 vendors are signed up for the Sept. 27-29 Flea and Craft Show at the Savannah Potato Fest, located on Route 31.

Gates open Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. with something for everyone. Special music for the weekend features Donna and the Mystics Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday to mark the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, Tom Gilbo and the Blue Suedes will take you down memory lane. The All Elvis Review will be from noon to 4.

There's a Cooking Contest on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. For details, contact Jean Allen at 365.3778.

If you are a picture taker, enter the photography contest that will be held on Friday at 6 p.m.

For horse riders and lovers, we will have open barrel races on Saturday with a championship event on Sunday. Both of these events will start at 1 p.m.

The Potato Fest Tractor and Engine Club will feature plenty of tractors and steam engines on Engine Row again this year. And there will be tractor pulls on Friday evening at 6 p.m., Saturday at noon and Sunday at 11 a.m.

Don't miss the antique trucks on display. There will be plenty of new equipment to see as well.

Two new events are a dog drill team demonstration Friday evening, by the Wayne County 4-H Dog Program, and model airplanes circling the field on Saturday. A model airplane group from Geneva will be on the grounds on Saturday flying their airplanes and sharing their hobby with all who are interested.

Sunday's car show is organized by Jeff and Valerie Stowell of Lyons 946.6418. And Jim Bush will have a tool and merchandise auction at 1 p.m.

In addition to SOFO amusements, the children will have a Backyard Circus, the Kiddie Parade, the children's game tent, and more.

There will be French fries, baked potatoes, potato soup, potato pancakes and other foods. The Savannah Firemen will have a chicken barbecue Saturday and Sunday.

The Savannah Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Potato Fest. Admission is $2 a person for everyone older than 16. Family passes are available.
