State of Emergency remains

Area schools remain closed today as the area tries to recover from last week's ice storm. New snow (3-6 inches in some areas) has hampered restoration of some power and has covered some fallen power lines and tree branches. The snow may also bring down tree branches already weakened by the ice, making driving and walking hazardous.

Wayne County remains under a State of Emergency with shelters open at the Sodus Point, Pultneyville, Clyde, Fairville and Marbletown Fire Halls and the Marion Bus Garage.

Phelps, Clifton Springs and Newark are still under a Water Conservation Advisory.

Last night, NYSEG still had 14,000+ customers without power. Crews continue to work to restore power, but most businesses are up and running. Many cardboard signs let customers know yesterday that businesses were open and had food or gas available. The one at Bodine's in Newark said simply, 'Subs and Pizza.' The sign at the Aldi supermarket and Family Dollar on Route 31 in Lyons read, 'Open.'
