Happenings Okay ... How many times did you try to put on the closet light this past weekend? Two weeks ago I said, 'It blew and snew and then it thew.' But this weekend it was the 'icing' on the cake and everywhere else! Thank you, Mary Croucher, who sent invaluable post cards of Marion plus old newspapers and school brochures for our archives. Dear Mr. Viele, I'm sure it was your ORANGE jellybeans that helped Syracuse in the Final Four! Hunneybears Craft Show will be held on May 3. Pearl and Hank Ververs of Marion Road and their son-in-law, Wesley Pluta, were invited to Doug Ververs' Sunday for dinner and to celebrate Doug and Kristen's birthdays. Early Marion. Palmyra-Marion Road Open July 23, 1936: The spreading of concrete on the Palmyra-Marion highway was finished Monday and the road will be opened for traffic when the 21 days required for hardening the concrete are up. Already some have ventured to drive on the half of the road that has been finished for some time. The workmen returned to the paving of Marion Main Street, as soon as their duties on the highway are over. Main street has been a busy, noisy place this week. It is encouraging to see the work advance and when the paving and cubing are completed residents will realize that it has been worth all the trouble and inconvenience necessary for so great an improvement. Congratulations to Earl and Michelle (Barton) Bailey who were married at the United Church on March 29, with the Rev. Stuart Mitchell officiating. Maundy Thursday Services at the Second Reformed Church will be April 17 at 7:30 p.m. Happy 66th Wedding Anniversary to Ernest and Lena Boss on April 10. This Saturday - April 12 - PTA is sponsoring an Egg Hunt in the Elementary Gym at 10 a.m. No School April 14-18 for the spring recess. The American Legion Roast Beef Supper will be today, April 11 With no electricity I had time to sort recipes for the upcoming Marion Legion Baseball Cookbook. Lately, I've had a hankerin' for coffee and the following recipe is an easy, delicious taste called, Mocha Mallow Pie. (Only one tasty treat that will be included.) I also had plenty of time to read The Ice Cream Girl by Robert James Burger. The setting is rural Marion; brings out the feelings and lives of those living here in the early 40's. An earlier book Siblings is available at the Marion Museum. Mr. Burgess still lives in nearby Walworth. Mocha Mallow Pie:
