The workshops illustrate what a 'walkable community' is and how to implement changes that improve pedestrian safety, access, and mobility in your community. They also include a Walking & Learning tours where the local host community becomes an outdoor classroom, bringing participants out in the field to examine pedestrian issues and accommodations. The workshops are designed to educate community leaders, citizens, and professionals in planning, design, law enforcement, education, recreation, and public health about the building blocks of Walkable Communities and how they can actively create safe, attractive, and functional walking environments. Mark Fenton is currently the host of the PBS series 'America's Walking' and was the former editor-at-large of Walking magazine. A five-time member of the United States national race walking team with a background in exercise science, Mark has become an authority on the impacts of pedestrian unfriendly communities on public health. He is a vocal advocate for utilizing community planning, environmental, and public policy initiatives to create more walkable communities.
