Newark concert re-scheduled

Due to the ice storm and power outages, the Newark Community Children's Chorus has re-scheduled its April concert.

The chorus will present a Concert of Local Favorites on Sunday, May 4 at 4 p.m. at Newark High School.

The concert, which features children from the Newark area, is under the direction of Laurie Williams. The concert will be a musical celebration of local favorites including historical, patriotic, and geographical songs.

Classic American folk songs, such as The Erie Canal, The Water is Wide, and Oh Shenandoah are the songs from many of our youthful days and it will be a joy to hear these in the voices of children.

Also included will be a traditional map song from the Civil War called The Drinking Gourd, patriotic selections, such as America the Beautiful, and a minstrel song called Dance, Boatman Dance. American composer Aaron Copland's Ching-a-Ring Chaw and Simple Gifts will round out the program.

Admission is free.

Public support of these talented children encourages them to strengthen their commitment to learning teamwork, building self- confidence, and promoting high standards through the arts.
