Happenings During the recent ice storm, Ina Benton had her 40-foot Douglas fir blown over, but the roots were not uncovered. A neighbor used his car to pull it back upright and has it tied to the catalpa tree in the yard, so it is back up and hopefully will be growing again. Matteo Alampi, Jr., made the Dean's List at SUNY Oswego. He is a junior, majoring in secondary education for grades 7-12 social studies and minoring in Italian. The 2000 Marion grad is the son of Matteo and Lorraine Alampi. The fire department is having a chicken BBQ on May 3, 1 p.m. until sold out, at the fire hall. Questions? 926.4341. Senior Citizens Supper will be held Thursday, May 15, at 6:15 p.m. at Marion High School Cafeteria. This supper will be followed by the Spring Vocal Concert. Call Warren Bushart at 926.2409 for reservations. The Marion Festival will be September 20, from 9 to 5. There will be a Street Dance on Friday, May 19. April 28 - May 12 is the junior class magazine sale. Saturday, May 3, School Bus Road-e-o. 'Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.' The school baseball team opened its season at home against East Rochester. The final score was 14-13, E.R. winning. MCS played a good game defensively and batted fantastic. We posted eight runs in the first, starting with lead-off batter Justin Devlin hitting a home run. Adam Schoonmaker, Shawn Cummings and Chris VanHall each hit a double. Coach Devlin said: 'We scored one run in the 6th to tie the game at 11. Then in the 7th, E.R. scored three runs to take a 14-11 lead. In the bottom of the 7th we scored two runs and had the bases loaded when they got the third out to end the game. The game was played in the bitter cold, but the kids played great!' The boys track team competed at the Victor Invitational despite the weather. Tim Moran led the team with four first places and Matt Nortier had two. Copyright
