Results of Jason Buyck Memorial 5K

Last Saturday, the Buyck family, hosted the Second Annual Jason Buyck Memorial 5K Race/Walk in Sodus.

Jason grew up in Sodus, and was on the school's cross country track team. He later joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and was killed December 11, 2000 at age 24. A Sgt. and crew chief on the MV22 Osprey aircraft, Jason was one of 23 Marines killed in Osprey crashes that year. The Memorial Run/Walk not only honors Jason and his fellow Marines, but raises money for the Jason Buyck Memorial Scholarship, an award which is presented each year to a graduating Sodus Central senior.

A medal was presented to Matt Addona, power walker from Newark for his extremely fast completion of the course.

Two of the Jason Buyck Memorial Award winners ran in the race: Jen Neal 2001 winner and Katie Hall 2003 winner.

Burnaps Farm Market was represented by 10 young runners who could be recognized in their Burnaps t-shirts.

Sodus, Newark, and Lyons Central school cross country teams were also well represented.

Total runners: 102 (six more than last year)

Total walkers: 20

Walkers and some runners brought in over $1200 in sponsor donations.
