Missing Sodus
Then we headed to Sodus Point and found nothing going on. Even the screen was missing. I think we might have been there just a bit early. I think the fun began a little later in the day. It would have been fun to see. The next movie will be August 30 - Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The Children's Dance Group will be from 5:30 - 6:30 and Simon Lovell is from 6:30 -7:l5. (Better check my own column next time to be sure I get there on time.) We had the chance to visit for a bit with Janet Lesschorn as well as her daughter, Kristen and her son, Jimmy. Amazing how much kids can change in five years, isn't it? While we were out and about, I did see Ruth Lennox from afar and it was tempting to ask her how the water was. Imani Day 2003 will be tomorrow (Saturday, August l6) from 8 a.m. until noon at the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. There will be a Continental breakfast catered by Dunkin Donuts and admission will be $5. (A family rate is available.) For more info, call Gloria Battle at 315.483.5249. The program is presented by the Wayne County Multicultural Arts Project, Inc. There will be poetry by Shaniece Heath and you can hear the beautiful sound of the Church of God Youth Choir. (Thank you to Gloria for sending along this information to me so I could add it to the column.) It's also county fair time and the Wayne County Fair in Palmyra, is one of our favorites. We always come away with such great new ways to use our dip and cheese in the Heluva Good recipe contest. Speaking of fairs, August 21 to September 1, you'll find Heluva Good taking part in the Great New York State Fair, held in Syracuse. You'll find Heluva Good Cheese being served up on baked potatoes at the Potato Booth, and you can see more on Dairy Day, Monday, August 25. They'll cook up some Heluva Good recipes in the Heluva Good/Crowley Foods Demo Kitchen on August 21 and 28. The demo kitchen is located on the lower level of the Art & Home Center. Don't forget the upcoming Bus Trips that Amy Toye has coming up through Global: October 11 - 12, Vermont and Massachusetts shopping/fall foliage. They will be visiting some Vermont country stores, Basketville, Craft Faire, Yankee Candle and more. The Williamson Library will have their next Lapsit Storytime for Toddlers (l8 months - 3 years of age with an adult partner) on Monday the l8th at l0:30 and the Sodus Library has Mrs. Combes on Mondays for their storyhour from l0:30 - ll:30. The concert at the Point this Sunday begins at 2 and will be the Rochester Scottish Bagpipe band which includes 24+ bagpipes and drums. (Did you happen to see Al Dobbin last Sunday?) News from the Kraft Shack: Classes at the Kraft Shack will begin again in the month of September with a Kraft Karnival early in the month. A tip from the Kraft Shack and one we can all use: If your stuffed animals, pillows, etc., become dusty, put them in your dryer on the 'air only' cycle for 15 minutes. A nice market to purchase fresh produce from is Burnaps. Burnap's Farm Market, Corner of Lake Rd. and Maple Ave., Sodus. Offering homegrown fruits, vegetables, lunches, flowers, ice cream and so much more. Pick your own fruits available in season. Open Memorial Day through Halloween. Open Daily, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. (We went past Burnaps the other day and took pictures of the beautiful flowers that were growing along the road, we went every year to pick up many things, but the zucchini for zucchini bread was amazing. Now, where I shop, I have to take a double take at the zucchini to be sure it isn't a cucumber.) The Sodus Central School Classes of 1964, 1965, and 1966 have joined together to have a combined class reunion on July 31, 2004 at the Sodus Bay Heights Restaurant.
