Happenings
By Carolyn Adriaansen (926.4436)

Oh, how I long for the good old days - before they put a catch basin in front of my house - and water flowed off the hill and down the driveways down the side of Union Street to Red Creek instead of into my basement!

'Our children are living messages we send to a time and place we will never see.'

Mackenzie Davis presented the Ministry of Music at the Second Reformed Church on Sunday, August 17.

The first roast beef dinner, at the Marion Legion Home will be September 12.

Virginia VanderBrook is a resident of the Wayne County Nursing Home.

Roger Hermenet, of East Williamson Road, has undergone recent bypass surgery and is now recovering nicely.

Sheila Hellis is recovering at home following surgery at the Newark Wayne Hospital.

Paige Wolfanger has the misfortune to fall and injure her elbow and knee which will require surgery.

Paul and Sue Devlin have returned from a two-week tour of the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. They spent time touring the four tourist, islands, experiencing tasty specialties and meeting new friends. They especially enjoyed touring each of the islands as they are all so different in terrain and foliage. The trip was in celebration of their upcoming 25th Wedding Anniversary.

Brian and Jill Adriaansen and boys, Craig and Derek, are home after spending a week with Jill's family at Acadia National Park in Maine. This is an annual event with family and Jill's parents, Roger and Grace Schneckenburger of Glenwood, NY. While hiking and fishing and enjoying the lovely scenery they had the surprise of meeting up with Jim and Pam Wolfanger of Marion and at a seafood dinner they encountered Peg Pembroke's grandson, Sven-Erik and Martha Kaiser and Matthew and Samuel. It was foggy during the week, but all had an enjoyable time. (It certainly is a small world).

'A Letter'

A letter is the warmest way

to bid a friend the time of day,

A keep-in-touch that brings the smiles,

Across the very longest miles.

And what a wealth of strength and hope,

Is tucked inside an envelope,

Reminding loved ones that you are,

At least in heart, not very far.

In no country, state or camp,

The wealth beneath a postage stamp,

For memories that never age,

Are written down upon each page.

And though it's nice to telephone,

One of the sweetest pleasures known,

Are moments shared in thoughts we send,

That can be read, and read again.

Kathy and Benny Poormon spent a week with their mother, Ina Benton and other family members from their home in Mesa, Arizona. While here, they had lunch at the Belhurst Castle in Geneva, went on a wine tasting tour and had a lovely lunch at the Newark Quality Inn.

The tulips of the Red Hat Society spent part of Saturday at Forman Park in Pultneyville. Two members entertained the group with a play, games of 'Dirty Bingo' were played, pictures were taken and a dish to pass picnic was enjoyed.

Happy birthday wishes to Alice Flass on August 19.
