Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Sodus BayThe last few weeks have been filled with trying to get ready for school - picking up school supplies and clothes. Of course, the kids don't want to admit that the big day will be coming soon. I, myself, am surprised as to how fast this month is going. There is a lot to deal with...on one hand, we want to enjoy as much summer as we can, yet we have to get ready for the next phase of the month.

Pretty soon, you'll be getting news from Ralph and Betty Everdyke in Florida. Once the weather begins to get a bit cool, they and a bunch of others from Newark, make their pilgrimage down to Florida. Can't really say that I blame them... I'm just jealous.

Jacob Spencer of Marion is back. He said he was very hot!!! For the last 61/2 months, he has been in Kuwait and Iraq. It was rough. He said the only thing that made it worth it were the smiles on the kids' faces as they rolled by them. Needless to say, he is happy to be back home. Even though the war is 'officially over,' we still have a lot of men and women over in Iraq and the Middle East to keep in our prayers for their safe return. Welcome home, Jacob.

Michelle Abbey has a new job. Congratulations to her.

Monroe County's Seneca Park Zoo will have Beastly Bash! on Saturday, September 20. This adult-only event highlights animal-inspired art created by Klein Steel employees and local artists. Sodus Pt. Lighthouse Museum August, 30 - The Great Sodus Bay Screen. Where can you go with a blanket and some lawn chairs to enjoy some family time at the movies? Sodus Point Ballfield. This will be the last movie of the season, so try to take the family to enjoy it. Many food items are available or you can bring your own picnic basket filled with goodies from home. There will be an Art Show, 5-8 p.m.; Children's Dance Group-5:30-6:30 p.m. The Diane Lynn Dance Studio will have performances by its most talented children. You can watch as they do Irish Dance, Belly Dancing and Rap. The Pet Parade is 5:30-6 p.m. and Simon Lovell performs from 6:30 to 7:15. There will be an Apple-Eating Contest from 7:15-8:15 and Double Feature Movies: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Jaws. The first movie will begin at sunset.

Another way to spend some fun time with the family is through miniature golf. You can go to Eagle Ridge Driving Range in Williamson and there is one at Sodus Point: My-T-Putt on Lake Road.

There are two more concerts at the Point. This week, you can relax and listen to Tim Allan (Banjo and Guitar). Check out www.timallan.com (Of course, at first I spelled Allan with an e and found out all kinds of information about Tim Allen, as well.) The concert is this Sunday at 2. Don't forget your lawn chairs.

I have a great recipe for a tropical punch called Guava Delight and there is no sherbet:

  • l/2 C sugar
  • l/2 C water
  • l l/2 C guava juice (you can get small cans in Wegmans)
  • l/4 C orange juice
  • l l/2 C lemon juice
  • l/2 C pineapple juice
  • and l bottle of ginger ale
  • Combine sugar and water, simmer l0 minutes; cool. Then stir in the juices; chill. Then add the ginger ale and some ice. It is very good.

Sodus Bay If you're looking for something new to fix for dinner check out their http://www.heluvagood.com/inside.htm Then click kitchen and next, into recipe box. They have many to chose from.
