Missing Sodus

Well I guess winter is definitely here. We tried to avoid it as long as possible. I've noticed people are getting the Christmas trees earlier this year and putting them up. I saw one in the middle of November.

I haven't heard from Janet about the newest member of the family but I bet they are all having a great time with their new puppy. Now, how fast can you housebreak a puppy? (Just when I thought I couldn't take it anymore, they figured it out.)

From Ralph and Betty Everdyke from Newark, who are wintering in Florida:

It has been rather a quiet week. We did drive only 202 miles for Thanksgiving dinner last Thursday. We went to Ron and Micki Fagner in a place called Natures Edge which is near Lake Wales. It is way out in the county but is a very nice little settlement.

Micki's sister Jackie and her husband Dick Mastrodonato where also there. They live in Rochester but were down on a weeks vacation.

We had a delicious dinner of turkey with all the trimmings and a lot of conversation back and forth as the day went on . A really very nice time. Hadn't seen Jackie and Dick for a while, so it was nice to see them again.

The driving was very good on the way over and back. I thought with the holiday it might be heavy , but was quite light on both the way over and back.

The rest of the week has been quiet as I said before. Been quite cold out. Had to put my long pants on again. In the county just north of us they had some frost one night. That is all for now.

Seems like yesterday we went out Christmas Caroling with the Church in Sodus. The people who couldn't get out really appreciated it. I know, because when we were shut in for a bit, the Boy Scouts and one of the Churches sang for us, and it was nice to know someone took the time for us.

Recipe from Weight Watchers: Crackle Spice Cookies

  • 1/2 cup reduced-calorie margarine, soft
  • 1/2 cup unpacked brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp table salt
  • 1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 375F.

In a mixing bowl, on medium speed, beat margarine with brown sugar until creamy. Add egg and vanilla extract; beat until light and fluffy. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt and spice.

Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into powdered sugar to coat. Place onto baking sheet. Bake until golden, about 7 to 8 minutes.

I have heard from good sources who are watching the Santa Radar where Santa will be and when. If you find out about a Santa sighting that my people don't know about, please let me know at

If you have memories of Christmases when you were little, please let me know. It would be fun to share them.

Have a great week. Enjoy getting ready for the holidays.
