Christmas in Florida

Well, the idea of winter forgetting about us this year just isn't going to happen.

Christmas is right around the corner and somehow, I was convinced I wanted to go shopping on a Sunday afternoon. There are so many crabby people in the stores, they take the fun out of shopping. You just want to find the front door of the store and run.

Ralph Everdyke sends this picture from Florida and writes:

I think the guy must have spent 2 or 3 dollars on all the stuff in this lawn...'

Goldfish crackers have gone Christmas as well, red and green goldfish - not seen very often.

Monroe County's Seneca Park Zoo announced the birth of an African penguin chick born on November 14. Growing fast and doing well; it weighed 2.7 ounces on November 15, 12.5 ounces on November 25 and, as of, November 29, the penguin was 1 pound 5 ounces. The new arrival was born to the eldest female, Tootsie, a 22-year-old, and Blanca, a first-time father. It is too soon to know the gender of Nooch, the penguin chick, named after John Nuccitelli, a Zoo Society donor and Board of Trustee member. Monroe County's Seneca Park Zoo ranks as one of the top three zoos in North America with successful breeding of the endangered African black-footed penguin. Six of the penguins were recently relocated to other zoos to begin breeding programs. The penguin can be viewed on a monitor in the Rocky Coasts Gallery between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. any day of the week. Seneca Park Zoo is open 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. everyday (zoo grounds are open until 5 p.m.).

A fun movie to rent is The Santa Clause II with Tim Allen. A fun way to spend a Saturday night with the family. Don't forget the popcorn.

Sue Lowenguth has been able to go home from her hospital stay in Brockport. We are all happy to see she is feeling much better.

I received a Christmas card and note from Gloria Underwood. It was nice to hear from them. Ed and Gloria lived in Sodus on the other end of Sergeant Street for years. I can't believe how grown up her kids look. Mine don't change as far as I can see, though they do look a bit taller.

Jake Spencer will be home sometime for the Holidays if he has not already arrived. It is so nice his group get to go home after three years of being away. Remember to keep the other men and woman in the Middle East in your thoughts and prayers. It has to be very difficult to miss Christmas with the family.

Every year the Williamson Library celebrates Christmastime by making fun crafts and decorating the tree. Creative children can work at the craft workshop which will be open for all children and their creativity on Saturday, December 13 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Come in a discover some fun new craft ideas complete with lots of color and glitter. (We used to go and the kids really enjoyed it... me, too.) The Lap Sit Storytime is always a cozy way to spend time at the Library. Lap Sit Storytime for ages l8 months to 3 years of age will be Monday, December the 15 at l0:30. Robin didn't forget about the older children, ages 3-5 have a storytime at l0:30 on Wednesday the 17th. Storytime is always a lot of fun and Robin has a lot of great stories she shares and activities for learning as well. And if I know the Williamson Library, they have lots of great movies for the Christmas season and plenty of fun books to share.

Thurs., Dec. 18 is the Community Christmas Dinner at United Methodist Church, W. Main St., Sodus, 11:30 a.m.

just hanging out Have you seen the Christmas Traditions paper? If you missed it you can still read it online.

Will there be Christmas Caroling this year? Wouldn't it be fun to get a bunch of friends together in a sleigh or on a wagon with lots of cocoa and singing and jingling all the way to Christmas.

Happy birthday to all who have December birthdays. If you have a birthday, you would like to have remembered please send it along to me

Have a great week with your friends and family, and try not to get too stressed getting everything done. Easier said than done, of course. Al Dobbin, for example, has the peanut brittle all done and, if I know Al, delivered, as well.

Make Christmas a fun and enjoyable time for your families and yourself. You don't want to feel rushed and cheated out of the fun.
