Missing Sodus
More news from Ralph and Betty: Their son Reggie and daughter-in-law Laurie will be going down for a visit with the kids, Alex and Christina. The family will be visiting Ralph and Betty for about four days. They will be stopping to see Laurie's brother in North Carolina for a day, then going to Florida. After Christmas they will be going to Disney World and back to Laurie's brother's for New Year's Eve. They bought a 5-day pass the last time they went and still have time left on it. (I'm sure they will not miss the snow while they are gone. Have a wonderful Christmas visit.) Ruth Malone and family attended a Reindeer luncheon put on by her Granddaughter Amber's school. For the menu, there was Reindeer salad, real butter, rolls, root beer, ravioli, and Rice Krispie treats. (Do you see a pattern here?) They had a nice time. Haven't gotten your tree yet, here are some ideas. (I can remember going to Olgen's tree farm on Rte. l4 for years. Do they still sell trees?) You can get yours at vonSchillers Christmas Tree Farm, 5115 South Geneva Rd. , Sodus; Carl's Christmas Tree Farm, 3347 Rte. 88N., Newark; and many other local farms. The Apple Shed has new winter hours: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9-5. They have apples for the holidays along with fresh cut trees and many holiday gift ideas. (After all, what is Christmas without fudge?) Heluva Good news: Tis the season of giving and few gifts are more widely appreciated than the delicious taste of Heluva Goods naturally aged cheeses and real sour cream dips. Create your own festive Heluva Good holiday baskets by combining a selection of your favorite Heluva Good cheeses, dips, and condiments with gourmet crackers, fresh fruits, and other delicacies. Add holiday ornaments, wrappings, and other decorations to complete the presentation. If you don't have time to make your own, or if the recipients live far away, the Heluva Good Country Store Online offers a nice assortment of gift items. (Editor's note to Melissa: We went there just last Saturday and found some really nice things for a basket. We got two beautiful coffee mugs, some mustard, some Dutch Apple jam, a pretty little holiday spreader, cranberry caramel corn, and more. If you haven't made a trip to the store yet, do it.)Tomorrow (Sat., Dec. 20) is the Annual Community Christmas Dinner at Lyons Community Center, 2 p.m. and on Wednesday, Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) is the Live Nativity at First Baptist Church, East Main St., Williamson, 6-7 p.m. (I always thought a live nativity would be interesting to see.) On Thursday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day there will be a Shared Christmas Dinner at First United Methodist Church, Newark, 1 p.m. All are welcome. The Sodus Chamber of Commerce is holding a House & Business Holiday Decorating Contest. (Let me know who wins.) There's a Holiday Breakfast Buffet at Cooper's Cafe on Sunday, from 8 to 12:30. Call 315.483.0717 The Alton Antique Center is open again. Stop by and say hello. Have a cup of coffee and browse. And, there's a new place to eat on Route 104 in Williamson - The Bad to the Bone Barbecue. And to get rid of an extra holiday pounds, there's a Weight Watchers at United Third Methodist Church in Sodus. A new session is starting Mondays, 4:30 & 6 p.m. (Also looking for Lifetime Members to staff a Community Group. Call Roseanne 315.483.6679)
There are many fun things to do as you ring in the holidays. If you have any recipes or birthdates, as well as other information you'd like to
I look forward to receiving them. Thanks to everyone. We will keep the men and women who are far away from home protecting our country in our thoughts and prayers, as well as their families who are missing them at home. Merry Christmas!
