Meeting next week for County Master Plan
The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on February 10 at the Newark High School, 625 Peirson Avenue. All interested citizens are welcome and encouraged to attend. No special skills are necessary; everyone's input and active participation is crucial to the success of the project. The Board of Supervisors recently hired Cynthia Hill of FRESH Perspectives Land Use Planning to spearhead the county's two-year citizen-based master planning program. Contact her at or 946.5919 if you are interested in the project. Registration for the kick-off meeting on February 10 would be appreciated. A comprehensive master plan is a blueprint for the county's future. It provides citizens and community leaders with a document that clearly communicates the publics interests and expectations to planners and developers. The document will provide technical assistance to rural municipalities that do not currently have updated master plans. Other towns and villages will have an opportunity to consider model ordinances and innovative, collaborative planning tools that help promote quality neighborhoods and lifestyles. The goals are to promote growth that enhances rather than diminishes property values, to promote aesthetically pleasing development, and to preserve and enhance the historic, cultural, and environmental resources of Wayne County. The plan will help the county secure more grant money from the State and Federal government, and will help citizens communicate their goals and priorities with respect to water, sewer, and transportation improvements.
