Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

mgoodcooke@yahoo.com

It was nice to see some thawing this week. (You know you've had too much snow when you get excited to see dry roads and some grass. It really is still under all that white stuff.)

Ralph Everdyke sent me a picture from Florida of himself, wife Betty (VanKouwenberg), her brothers, Howard and Donald (their wives, Betty and Jean), and Ron Fagner. (Micki Fagner took the picture.) It's different to see people standing outside without big coats on. (Was that sunshine?) Ralph says he doesn't know if there were any VanKouwenbergs around Sodus, but there used to be quite a few in Marion.

(Ralph, let me know if you go to the the annual Newark High School Florida Reunion. It's at the Holiday Inn in Venice, on Florida's west coast, on Wednesday, February 19. Click here for that story.

In speaking to Eileen Hooper, Florida is beginning to warm up but the temperatures were very cold for a while. Eileen and the kids must have been the envy of their neighbors, since they lived in New York in Sodus they had the warm coats needed to keep warm during our nasty winters. She had people ask her where she had gotten her nice warm coat. Eileen is smart she took some of her winter things with her just in case.

Tomorrow (Sat., February 8), there will be a Valentine Buffet at Wallington Fire Hall, 4:30 p.m. until gone....

Tomorrow is Sodus Little League Registration, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sodus Primary School.

Sodus Troop 111 will be celebrating their 80th Anniversary tomorrow. Click here for the story. (Thanks, Jan.)

Also at the Primary School: Monday, February 10 through Friday, February l4, 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. is the Gift of Love Cookie Sale.

Monday, Feb. l0, the Girl Scouts meet in the Cafeteria, 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. ll, the Boy Scouts meet from 7 to 8.

Next Saturday (Feb. 15), there will be a Sweetheart Dinner at Williamson Fire Hall, 7-9 p.m. Call 589.4825

Happy Birthday to Lorrie Zone who will be celebrating her special day on the l0th. February 8, Emily Clark has a birthday; Tom White celebrates February 13, and Alice Clark, February 24. Happy Birthday to each of them.

Some great stories to read with the kids this weekend:

Cabbages and Kings by Elizabeth Seabrook (a long story, but cute)

Cold Little Duck, Duck, Duck by Lisa Westberg Peters

Aunt Minnie and the Twister by Mary Skillings Prigger

The Little Green Dragon by Adelle Sansone

Thanks to everyone who sent along information for this week's column. Anytime you have things you'd like to have added to the column please send them along. Thanks also to Ralph for the great picture.
