At the Marion Library
By Pam Wolfanger

As a result of the controversy over the Monroe County and Rochester Public Library System's decision to charge an out-of-system fee of $30, we were asked what our opinion of this policy. My answer is always the same, 'I wish it weren't necessary.'

The problem is that, even though libraries and library systems around the state are doing their best to manage their money, we are struggling.

Libraries in New York haven't had a raise in state aid since 1997 and now it looks as if we will be seeing a large decrease in state aid in the coming budget. Anyone concerned about library funding should write legislators.

Many thanks go to the generous people of Marion who provided 89 children in our School District with Christmas gifts through the library's Angel Tree.

The library will be presenting basic computer and Internet programs in March. The March 4 class is filled up, but if you are interested in participating in a class, call 926.4933.

There will be a pre-school story time on Wednesday mornings from 10 to 10:45. Registration for this program is going on now. Children must have been three by December 1.
