Spay Day is next week
The theme is 'Help Stamp Out Pet Overpopulation. Neuter or Spay - It's a First Class Act.' This coincides with the Spay/Neuter postage stamps available until September 2003 from the United States Postal Service The Humane Society of Wayne County is holding a drawing and several lucky area companion animals will receive a free spay or neuter. In past years there have not been any income stipulations for awarding a free spay/neuter. However, this year we are looking for pet owners that may not have the money to pay for the spaying or neutering of their companion animal. This might be an elderly friend on a fixed income, a downsized neighbor, a student, a farmer with barn cats, or a colony of feral cats. If you are aware of someone who would benefit from Spay Day, please contact the shelter. To enter your pet in the drawing, please call the shelter at 946.3389 or stop by 1475 County House Road in Lyons. Altered animals are less likely to wander, and altering reduces or eliminates the risk of certain types of cancers. Spaying and neutering often eliminates undesirable behavior such as fighting or spraying. Two unaltered cats and their unaltered descendants can number as many as 420,000 in just seven years. Two unaltered dogs and their descendants can number 67,000 in six years. No wonder there are so many unwanted/abandoned animals in shelters, and unfortunately not all of them get homes.
