Accepting applications for Correction Officer

Sheriff Richard Pisciotti has announced an open competitive civil service examination for Correction Officer with the Office of Sheriff's Correction Division.

Applicant must be a resident of Wayne County. The 2003 hourly rate of pay ranges from $13.209 - $17.612. Applicants must have the minimum qualifications of a graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma issued by a State Education Authority and possession of NYS driver's license at the time of appointment and maintenance of such license throughout the tenure of employment in the position

Applicants must meet physical and medical standards at the time of appointment to the position of Correction Officer. In accordance with state laws, a Correction Officer is a Peace Officer and must be a United States citizen to qualify to hold such office.

Permanent appointments to Correction Officer are subject to satisfactorily completing training standards prescribed by the NYS Commission of Correction.

Sheriff Pisciotti said, 'The position of Correction Officer with my office is a highly professional position in our organization. The Correction Staff has very difficult duties and tasks to perform in the supervision of our inmate population. The position of Correction Officer is rewarding for people who are self-motivated and interact with people well. The position has an excellent pay, benefits and retirement package. I am looking for the best qualified applicant to become part of our professional Correction Staff.'

Applications will be accepted by the Wayne County Personnel Office at 26 Church Street, Lyons through March 19. The examination will be held on April 26.
