Watershed grants available

The Wayne County Water Quality Coordinating Committee (WQCC) is administering a grant program for the protection of freshwater resources.

The grant is available from the office of State Assemblyman Bob Oaks and from the office of NYS Department of State.

Eligible are homeowners, agricultural producers, waterfront enthusiasts and local municipalities.

Under the program there are four categories that are available for funding:

Septic Systems - Up to $1000 reimbursement to low and median income households to repair a private failing or malfunctioning septic system that is within 200 feet of a local priority waterbody. Up to $2500 reimbursement towards repairing public access onsite waste water systems.

Agricultural Facilities - Up to $1000 reimbursement to establish, relocate, or modernize a pesticide mixing facility in close proximity to a priority waterbody. This category also includes reimbursement to install fencing adjacent and around streams to fence out livestock and other animals.

Marine Pump-outs - Up to $2500 reimbursement to establish or upgrade a marine pumpout facility on a navigable waterbody with in Wayne County.

Stormwater Management - Up to $2500 reimbursement for all County municipalities including Towns, Villages and Highway Departments to implement erosion control practices in close proximity to a priority waterbody. Projects include vegetative swales, berms, filter strips, retention ponds, streambank, roadbank, and road ditch stabilization.

The grants will be awarded on a reimbursement basis only.

Applications accepted until April 30 from Wayne County residents only.
