Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Did everyone enjoy the kids' week off ? Nice to have them home, but also nice to have them go back to their schedules.

I thought the squirrels running around was a sign of spring but then we got hit with some more snow. (I guess it was a sign of a storm and stocking up.)

Carol Moysey is looking for a friend she has lost contact with - Jean Richardson Humbert . Carol graduated from Sodus Central High School with Jean and they were friends for many years. Carol has checked the phone book but hasn't had any luck. If you know Jean, please write to me at

mgoodcooke@yahoo.com

and I can connect you up with Carol. (I'm sure they have a lot of things to catch up on.)

Ralph Everdyke said he wasn't doing any golfing the other day - catching up on things that needed to be done around the house. They had a lot of rain and thunder storms, but the day he wrote, it was becoming sunny, breezy and a little cooler. (Sometimes you have to have some rainy days to catch up on the house. We in the North have had months worth of time... now it's time to get outside and enjoy the sun.)

The Wayne County Humane Society is looking for a volunteer receptionist to work during working hours. If interested please call 946.3389.

On Sunday, March 2, if you are looking for something fun to do with the family, perhaps the Chili Blues Fest is for you. The fun includes music, raffles, a Mardi Gras Theme and will be held at Skippers Landing on 706l Lake Bluff Road in Wolcott. l to 4 p.m. Advance sale tickets are $12 you can call 3l5.483.6391. (Sounds like fun... I've never heard of a dull Mardi Gras, have you?)

Mark your calendars for the Irish Wake Murder Mystery and Dinner Theater on March 21 at 6:30 p.m. The Theater will be sponsored by Maxwell Creek and Papa Joe's Restaurant. A wine and cheese reception, dinner, theater entertainment, dessert and door prizes... call Maxwell Creek Inn 315.483.2222 for more details.

Alice Clark celebrated her birthday this week on the 24th. Hope it was a good one, Alice.

There is a new business in Sodus Point, perhaps you've seen it when driving through. Cooper's Cafe is now open... you can stop in for lunch or dinners. You can enjoy specialty coffees or a glass of wine with your meal, as well as the beautiful view of Sodus Bay. Should be a lot of fun during the summertime... they have a waterfront deck.

Are you looking for a gift for the friend or relative who has everything? Going to a party and want to bring something along for the host and hostess? The Heluva Good Cheese store has many great samplers to choose from. Heluva Good's Dynamic Duo: A wonderful combination of 2 lb. New York State Extra-Sharp White Cheddar Cheese, cut into the shape of an old-fashioned wheel and wrapped in black wax, with a 9 oz. jar of sweet and tangy Heluva Good Mustard Sauce makes for great snacking. This package is perfect for parties, gift giving, or to just plain enjoy yourself. You can check their website for other choices www.heluvagood.com

But don't forget the nice shop they have in Sodus.

Mark your calendars:

Monday, March 3 Sodus students will have their Middle School Concert at 7 p.m. The concert will include the 6th Grade Chorus, 6th Grade Band and the 7th & 8th Grade Band

Thursday, March 6 will be the High School Pot Luck Supper Concert at 6:30 p.m. The concert will include the Concert Choir Symphonic Band Select Choir and the Jazz Band

Some really cute books to look for while you're visiting the library:

Puppy Mudge Takes a Bath by Cynthia Rylant

Mr. Putter and Tabby Catch the Cold by the same author

Henry and Mudge and the Tall Tree House same

The Sleeping Porch by Karen Ackerman

And one that will answer all your snowman questions:

Snowmen At Night by Caralyn Buehner (Apparently they are very busy....)

If you have books you'd like to share, birthdays, special events, recipes etc. please write to me at mgoodcooke@yahoo.com and I'll be sure to add them to the column for you.

Remember there are many people who used to live in the area that read the column to keep up on the 'what's happening.'

Thank you to all who have sent things along and to those who will be sending in the future.

Have a great week and whatever you chose to do, enjoy it.
