Enjoy a great evening of jazz music at Newark High School January 18 at 8 p.m. It's the annual winter jazz concert and will feature music by the talented, Rochester-based New Millennium Jazz Quartet. The group holds performance credits with some of the most respected names in the music industry including Chuck Mangione, Aretha Franklin, Bo Diddley and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

Music Supervisor Dave Schwind will direct the Newark High School Jazz Ensemble.

Affiliated with the Young Audiences of Rochester, the New Millennium Jazz Quartet will not only perform with the Jazz Ensemble, but also with the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by NHS vocal music teacher Jean Bendix.

The quartet will work with NHS instrumental musicians and will perform for high school students Jan. 17 at a 10 a.m. assembly.

Members of the quartet are Steve Curry on percussion, Andrew Calabrese on piano, Mike Kaupa on trumpet and Peter Chwazik on acoustic bass. They have local teaching experience that includes work with the Hochstein Music School, the Aesthetic Education Institute and Tompkins County Community College.

New Millennium Jazz Quartet will play two selections each with both the Vocal Jazz and Jazz Ensembles.

Tickets are $5 and are only available at the door. Senior citizens who have a Golden Pass may attend for free.
