Alec SutherlandFulbright Scholar speaks at Newark Library lunch

The Newark Public Library luncheon was held January 10, with a capacity crowd in attendance. The speaker was Alec Sutherland, retired Nazareth College professor and Fulbright Scholar, whose topic was Population Genetics and DNA.

Professor Sutherland's talk centered around several books on the subject of DNA technology, among them, The Seven Daughters of Eve, by Brian Sykes and Mapping Human History by Steve Olson.

'DNA is the human building block, the blueprint of all living things' said Sutherland. 'Dr. Sykes, author of The Seven Daughters of Eve staggers the readers when he points out that almost all people of native European descent, wherever they live now, can trace their ancestry back to one of seven women, hence the Seven Daughters of Eve.'
