Missing Sodus Al Dobbin has been busy snow-blowing many driveways (as always). Isn't he a sweetheart? (Now, if he could make the snow disappear completely...) I was going through some past stories I wrote while I was doing reporting. It was a lot of fun reading about the things Eileen Hooper's Girl Scouts were up to; the puppies that Alice Clark took into school; and the story about Tina, the lady who drove the ice cream truck. Do you have memories of spring and summers in the past? Please drop me a note and we can share with the other readers. It's always fun to look back. I saw many familiar names for the play that is coming up: When I'm Kissing You. Really neat to read that a student who graduated in l974 is the writer of the play - Jay Hanagan. A note from our friends Norm and Dottie Harris in the South: 'While everyone up north is shoveling and shivering, we, down south, have been enjoying a 7-day cruise in San Juan Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Nassau. The on-board pampering is unbelievable. Now it is time to come back to reality and face the real world with things like tackling the load of laundry that accumulated on the trip. Where, oh where, is that room steward now?' Almost scary how fast laundry piles up when you are out having fun, isn't it? But it sounds like a great trip and that Norm and Dottie had a good time. What have Ralph and Betty been up to? The other day while they were taking a ride around the countryside, Ralph asked Betty what she would like for lunch. She said a Hot Dog. When she said that, Ralph drove to Sky Dive City, which is on the east side of the Zephyrhills airport. They have been there several times, but it is always interesting to go back again. They Sky Dive there everyday when it isn't raining. The nice part is that it is completely free. No parking charge or anything else. About every 30 minutes or so a plane will take off with about 15 or 20 people and, in a little while, they will come down floating out of the sky. It is interesting to watch them come down. They will be coming down fairly fast and when they get close to the ground they pull on the back rip cords and they will be almost standing still when they hit. A couple of years ago, they were trying to set a record for free falls. Several planes went up at the same time taking, Ralph thinks, 120 jumpers. They came down free-falling in a huge circle, holding hands. Then, of course, they all opened their chutes and landed. Ralph asked one of the fellows what it cost to be taken up and he said only $17. Ralph thought that was rather inexpensive. Ralph says that if you're ever in the area, it is worth seeing. He says the Hot Dog was good, too. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's column. It is greatly appreciated. Write to me at It is always fun to hear from you.
