Parker Farm honored for 100 years

Parker Farm The New York State Agricultural Society announced the Parker Farm of Arcadia was recognized as a 'Century Farm' for more than 100 years of continuous family operation. The farm was founded in 1824.

The farm was one of 13 New York farms presented with commemorative plaque and a proclamation from Gov. George Pataki at the agricultural forum Jan. 9 in Syracuse.

The farm is currently owned by Lloyd Parker and his son, Kevin. The farm specializes in the greenhouse business, and raises beef cattle as a sideline. In all, seven generations of the Parker family have made this farm their home over the past 178 years.

The Parker Farm was honored by the Wayne County Historical Society in 1961 and by the Eureka Grange #46 in 1989.

Since 1937 the NYS Agricultural Society has celebrated farms that have thrived for more than 100 years in the hands of the same family. It is a hallmark role of the organization.

The New York State Agricultural Society was organized in 1832 to foster the state's food and agriculture industry. The Society's original mission to improve the condition of agriculture through education, leadership development and recognition programs - remains its focus today.
