Tickets for historical reading

Tickets are available at the Wayne County Historical Society Old Jail Museum for readings of the dramatic ballad, Spirits of Butternut Street. Two performances (7 and 7:45 p.m.) will be held each night on July 10, 11, and 12. A matinee performance will be held Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The play recounts a fantasy, post-mortal reunion of train robber Oliver Curtis Perry, executed murderer William Fee, murder suspect Georgia Sampson, and legendary Wayne County Sheriff Jeremiah Collins. Author T. J. Spencer's work, is written in ballad meter, the verse form associated with crime and criminals ever since the middle ages. The play is entertaining, educational and children are welcome.

Limited seating for the readings will be arranged in the cellblock where the persons who inspired the drama spent part of their lives. Tickets should be purchased early for guaranteed seating. The price of admission is $2.50 for Society members; $3.50 for non-members; $1.50 for children under 12 years old; $10 for families of non-members and $8 for families of members.
