Did everyone enjoy their 4th of July? It was a busy weekend for parties, picnics and fireworks, as well as just enjoying a few days off from work. We were in Sodus the other day. We went for a ride and ended up in our old haunts. The Sodus School addition is amazing. We went by the beach at Sodus Point, stopped at the Sodus Library, and last, but not least, had a fudge sundae at the Country Kitchen. Of course, you can't leave there without buying a box of their homemade candy. Saturday (July 12), the Heritage Square in Ontario will have a Civil War Encampment and Drill Demonstration. Camp setup will begin Friday afternoon and evening; Saturday 10-5; Sunday 10- 3. Activities include military maneuvers and demonstrations, camp-life scenarios and cookery demonstrations, a period fashion show and Sunday morning church service. The Rochester Region of The Horseless Carriage Club of America is pleased to invite the public to attend its annual gathering of pre-1916 automobiles. Events for the day include a non-judged display of vehicles, a one-hour tour, food vendors, and more. The meet will be held Sunday (July 13) at the Bloomfield Town Square, Routes 5 & 20, Bloomfield from 10-4; tour at 3. Ample trailer parking is available. The Horseless Carriage Club of America is a non-profit corporation founded by and for automobile antiquarians. Dedicated to the preservation of motor vehicles of ancient age and historical value, their accessories, archives and romantic lore. For more information, contact Howard Sharp at 585.425.1189. The Summer Concert Series at Sodus Point is Sundays at 2. Remember to bring your lawn chairs or blanket to enjoy the concert on the lawn. This week, it's For Dancers Only. The gift shop and museum will be open. Refreshments are available. The Candy Kitchen has wonderful home made candy and a web site to visit www.OriginalCandyKitchen.com (I must say, the candy is delicious - homemade chocolate like no store can provide. The people at the Candy Kitchen are as always nice and accomodating. You always feel welcome when you go there.) On July 12, you can break bread with the Thorpe Vineyard at 8150 Chimney Heights Blvd. in Wolcott. Tasting wines and enjoying gourmet flatbread sandwiches, cheeses and salsas. Participants will receive an anniversay wine glass as well as an entry for a gift basket and a $5 coupon for future wine purchases.
On July l6, Sodus Point Park will have another Fun In The Sun event , the two-hour program will include fun with crafts, beach games and swimming. Registration is through the town and village recreation programs only. The Great Sodus Bay Screen's Family Fest is coming on July l9. The movie Shrek will be shown at the Oscar Fuerst Field/Ballpark in downtown Sodus Point on the north side of Greig Street. Parking is available on both sides of the Ballpark, along Greig Street and in the parking lot next to the Pier/Coast Guard. Bring along your blankets, lawn chairs, families and picnics. Pets on leashes are fine, but please pick up after them. There more events going to take place earlier in the day on the l9th. I'll let you know all about them as the time gets closer. Movies begin at sunset. July 19 is also Pultneyville Homecoming Antique Show and Sale. Location: Centennial Park in Pultneyville. Antique Show and Sale, Antique Car Show, Arts & Crafts, Parade at 11 a.m. Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance at 8 p.m. at Gates Hall. Chicken bbq at Masonic Hall, 10 a.m. The next trip with Global is August 13 - 21.A fully escorted group will be going to Ireland, Shannon, Dublin,and Killarney, for 9 days. The Apple Shed is open for the season, Mondays-Thursdays l0-5, Friday -Sunday l0-9. Please call for the hours and availability for the u-pick strawberries. Now, the Apple Shed serves Perry's Ice Cream! Don't forget the homemade goodies, as well as visiting the farm-yard friends. (Strawberries typically ripen mid-June and are around for approximately 3-4 weeks.) The Apple Shed has a travelling Farm Market. Prepare and bake cake mix in a 10-inch tube pan or a 13 x 9 inch baking pan; bake according to package directions or until golden brown and top appears dry. Cool cake completely according to package directions. (If using the 13 x 9 pan, turn cake in pan upside down, resting corners of pan on 4 cans of equal height; cool completely.) In a medium bowl, stir together yogurt and one-fourth of the pudding mix until smooth. Gradually add remaining pudding mix to yogurt, stirring until smooth after each addition. Fold in whipped topping. Serve lemon cream and berries over cake. Serving Size: 16. Any leftover lemon cream can be stored in the refrigerator for up to four days. Pour milk into blender container. Add remaining ingredients and cover. Blend at high speed at 15 seconds or until smooth. (Mixture thickens as it stands. Thin with additional milk, if desired.)
