Old quilt on display in Lyons

July 26-27, the Wayne County Historical Society will have one of its treasures available for viewing in the Sheriff's Parlour at the Old Jail Museum on 21 Butternut Street, Lyons.

A quilt, which describes itself as 'a signature quilt and record of Lyons in 1900' will be displayed from noon to 4 p.m. each day.

The embroidered quilt features blocks for churches, stores, businesses, professionals, fraternal organizations and local people.

Signature quilts were very popular with Victorian quilters in the mid-1800s and often given as gifts or made to commemorate special occasions. The quilt is a unique reminder of Lyons as it was over 100 years ago.
