Pioneer Gas Engine reunion planned in Marion

Antique Gas Engine and Tractor enthusiasts gather in Marion this weekend for the Pioneer Gas Engine Association's Reunion Show.

Each year people from all over New York State come to see the exhibits that showcase the predecessors of today's modem farming and industrial equipment.

The Association was conceived as a fellowship to rescue, restore, preserve and exhibit antique gas engines, tractors, and farm equipment. Harry Schoff, an avid collector of antique gas and steam engines, founded The Pioneer Gas Association in 1961 by inviting fellow enthusiasts to The Mendon Pioneer Museum in Honeoye Falls to participate in the first show. It had been a small show, but had modest success.

In 1963, Schoff invited a group of fellow enthusiasts to the Museum, for the purpose of preservation of pioneer gas engines, tractors, and allied farming equipment.

This weekend, see displays of Antique Gas Engines, an antique Case Steamer, tractors of all sizes, farming equipment and much more. Weekend activities will include: Stone crushing demonstrations, tractors on a Dynometer, Blacksmith, and Tinsmith demonstrations, parades daily, as well as the Flea Market will be open every day.

Friday activities include antique tractor pull starting at 6 p.m., and steamed corn at dusk, steamed by the Antique Case Steamer.

Saturday: Children's pedal tractor pull beginning at 11, tractor and movable equipment parade through town at 1, cake walk and baked goods sale, antique tractor pull starting at 5, steamed corn at dusk, and a Dee-Jay in the evening, provided by Dan Gardner's Take 2 Entertainment.

Sunday's activities will also include a pay-per-pull tractor pull at noon.

Refreshments will be sold, including, breakfast (until 11), lunch, dinner, ice cream, cold drinks. Admission is $2, children under 12 are free. Gate hours are Friday and Saturday 9 to 9 and Sunday 9 to 1.
