Last Thursday was Opening Day of the Newark Farmers' Market, and bad weather held off so that visitors could enjoy the day (and a complimentary piece of cake).

This year, the market is at the Firemen's Field (off Stuart Ave.) and is open each Thursday from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

You can find such things as jellies and pies made by Margaret DeLeeuw and Sally Schoonerman; and fresh breads and jams from Martin's in Clyde. The jams pictured here include peach, strawberry, raspberry and blackberry.

Also available was fresh produce from Faro's farm, and flowering plants from Hunneybear's in Marion.

All the vendors are from Wayne County and everything sold must be a product of Wayne County.

Head to the market next Thursday and support your local growers.

(WIC coupons accepted.)
