On June 8, the Marion Museum will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. with a display titled, 'Wedding Traditions.' In our day, most weddings, by tradition, take place on Saturdays, but in Colonial days, the choice of the wedding day was very important. According to an old wedding rhyme, the bride should be married on: Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses and Saturday no luck at all! Wednesday was considered lucky because of the word 'wed' in its spelling and Sunday, although not mentioned, was a popular day for quiet ceremonies. In researching my cookbooks for a recipe for GROOM'S CAKE for the June 8 program at the Marion Museum, I came across this recipe for Wedding Cake, I thought you might be able to use. Fifty eggs, five pounds sugar, five of flour, five of butter, fifteen of raisins, three of citron, ten of currants, pint brandy, fourth ounce cloves, ounce cinnamon, four of mace, four of nutmeg. This makes 43 and a half pounds, and keeps 20 years. This cake is unequaled. Rog and Gen Adriaansen spent the weekend of May 17 and 18 attending the graduation ceremonies of their twin grandchildren, Amy and Michael Adriaansen. Amy and Michael are the children of Tom and Therese Adriaansen of Rochester. Copyright
