Happenings The dandelion is often unfairly dismissed as nothing but a pesky weed by those who do not recognize its many uses. The leaves can be boiled to produce a green sludge that may be pureed and used to patch gutters; the flowers can be fermented into a potent, wine-like beverage (if somewhat less sugar is added, into a homemade paint remover); the roots, cut up and roasted, can be force-fed to poultry and cats; and the fluffy seed hairs of 5000 or so of the plants will provide a serviceable stuffing for a small toss pillow. Last week four groups of third graders visited their Marion Museum. Many had questions and by the sounds of their 'thank you' letters they thoroughly enjoyed their visit. Highlights included the Country Schoolroom, the cash register and the cow collection. It was hard for me to realize that some didn't recognize the horse chestnuts. (In our country school we used to steal them from the boys - imagining they were gold.) We will watch with anticipation the horse chestnut tree on the Elementary School grounds. 'If you think some of your friends have forgotten you, just buy a cottage on a lake!' Jason and Jennifer (Trout) Hosbach of Marion announce the birth of their first child, Matthew James Hosbach on June 10 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Matthew weighed 7 lbs. 7 oz. and is 20.5 inches long. Happy grandparents are Tom and Pat Trout of Marion and Jim and Janet Hosbach of Ontario. The Marion Baccalaureate is June 22 at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. Rev. Daniel Meyer, of the United Church, will present the program titled, Foundations. Members of the Senior Class will participate in the service. Signing for the deaf will be provided. The Community is invited. George Shoales has returned home following a hospital stay. Sue Hermenet is recuperating at home from recent surgery. Congratulations to Frank and Deb Halstead on the occasion of their 25th Wedding anniversary on June 17. The Women's Guild at the United Church, held a pot luck picnic supper at Forman Park in Pultneyville Tuesday. Dear Jim and Carrie White: I just love the addition to your front porch. The railing is perfect. Anytime you are ready for PORCHING just give me a call. Members of the TULIPS group of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Jade Palace, in West Webster Saturday, before touring the Webster Arboretum with its beautiful gardens. Leightone and Dorothy Wiant spent Father's Day weekend in Nashville, at a South Coast Missionary reunion. About 00 folks gathered at a college to get re-acquainted after 30 years. Politics, environmental conditions, growth of indigenous churches, and social issues were discussed. Folks wore traditional dress of the area, and all enjoyed telling stories of the jungle. June 20 - Fifth Grade Field Days. June 23 - Sixth Grade Field Days and Graduation at 7 p.m.; June 24 - Elementary School Picnic Day.
