Recycle your ink/toner cartridges Did you know that the plastic used inkjet and toner cartridges placed in landfills takes 100 years to decompose? In the United States alone, over 250 million cartridges are consumed and thrown away each year. The Lyons Heritage Society is collecting used inkjet and toner cartridges for recycling. Production of an ink jet cartridge requires 2.5 ounces of oil and a toner cartridge 2.5 quarts of oil. The re-manufacturing industry currently saves 73 million pounds from our landfills each year. Lyons Heritage Society has placed a collection box in the Lyons Library for your used cartridges. If you need to have them picked up please call 946.4492. A Rochester-based company will pay the Lyons Heritage Society a small amount for each cartridge collected. By donating your used cartridges to the Lyons Heritage Society you are helping a not-for-profit Lyons organization to raise money and also helping to conserve our environment.
