What a great week! Did anyone get the new Harry Potter Book? It has 870 pages. (A great way for the kids to keep busy for a long time.) I've been told Harry is very different in this book - a lot of interesting changes.

Don't forget to register for the fun Reading Program at the Williamson Library. Beginning June 30 and throughout the summer, kids who visit the Williamson Free Public Library will get an art box reading kit which includes a calendar of events, a reading log, a paint set and a foam picture frame to decorate and return to the library's art gallery. All participants can earn exciting prizes that include Memorial Art Gallery passes, colorful book bags and Eagle Ridge Sports coupons for buckets of balls & mini golf! Exciting FREE family programs this summer include: Storytimes for all ages, Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts Demo and Book Buddies will team up again with older kids to practice reading (pizza party included)! Also this summer, don't miss Jim McCarthy's sing-along, a Craft Fair with fun projects, Hip-Hop Dance Workshop, Culinary Arts Class for kids and a Pajama Storytime with milk & cookies.

Young adults are welcome to experience Mehndi Art, a comic book swap, budding artist craft classes, freebies on Fridays and chances to win cool prizes

The Lake Bluff campground has a lot of fun events for the 4th, including Mini Golf, a Costume Parade, Children's Face Painting, a Horseshoe Tournament and Bingo.

At the Sodus Point Lighthouse on July 4, Gap Mangione and his Big Band will be playing and on Sunday, July 6 the Fingerlakes Symphony Pops Orchestra. It's relaxing to sit in your lawnchair or on a blanket and listen, whether you are alone or with family and friends. You can enjoy the music and watch the boats on the water. Refreshments are available. Concerts are on Sundays at 2 p.m.

Also, on July 4, you can enjoy Breakfast on the Bluff at the Lighthouse. Come spend the morning enjoying a stack of pancakes, eggs, fruit, sausage and beverage for $5 per adult and $3 per child. Special pricing for 5k runners. 7 a.m.

AND, on JULY 4 & 5, there will be the Sodus Pt. Carnival on the Bay, Sodus Point Ballfield, Sodus Point. On July 4 - Fireman's Parade 7 p.m. and on July 5 - Fireworks 10 p.m. (NOTE: There will be no carnival rides. The hours will be from 4-11 p.m. on both days.)

A lot of fun things do next weekend!

This weekend, take advantage of strawberry season. There are many roadside stands and farm markets in the area. This Saturday and Sunday (June, 28-29), Lagoner Farm Market, 6895 Lake Avenue, Williamson, will have a Grand Opening celebration. Everything Strawberry - fresh picked and you pick, strawberry smoothies and strawberry milkshakes. Fun for the whole family. Wagon rides! Kettle corn on Saturday from 10-2. Kids crafts in Pottery Room from 2-4 both days. Bring your camera for pictures. Open Sat. from 9-9 & Sun. from 10-9. Face painting from 1-3 p.m.

There are many fun things to do during the weekend, and the week of the fourth of July as well, but don't forget that sometimes summer days can be lazy ones too. It's nice to have a picnic in the backyard with the family. We have been doing some reading in our backyard a few we really enjoyed are:

The Perfect Pet by Margie Palatini

Big Al and Shrimpy by Andrew Clements

Anna's Table by Eve Bunting

If you have events you'd like to share or fun things you are going to do during your summer vacation, please let me know and we can share them in the column. Write to me at
