Readers wanted for Civil War event Readers are being recruited for an upcoming Wayne County Historical Society Civil War production, The Sounds of War, that will be held at the Old Courthouse in Lyons on October 18 and at the Palmyra Western Presbyterian Church on October 19. The performances will begin with an historical introduction given by R. L. Murray, followed by Civil War musical selections led by James Kimball. Between musical selections, people dressed in period clothing will read pieces from local Civil War diaries and letters. Since the material will be read, memorization of the part is not necessary. This production is sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Robert G. Boehmler Community Foundation, Inc. The New York Council for the Humanities is a private agency, though supported by monies from both the state and federal governments. Men or women who are interested in taking part in this production or Union Civil War re-enactors who might like to read for this event are encouraged to call the Society office at the Old Jail Museum on 21 Butternut Street (946.4943), Lyons. The Museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 10-4, and closed on National holidays. After July 8 the Museum hours will be Monday-Friday, 10-4 and Saturday and Sunday noon to 4.
