Lyons, Marion teams push ahead

The Lyons Lions Varsity boys basketball team managed just 35 points but it was enough to capture the Class C sectional five championship Saturday. They defeated South Seneca 35-31 at Blue Cross arena.

Not only did the team collect new hardware for the trophy case, but also gave Coach Dean Schott his record ninth Boys Basketball Sectional Title. The Lions head coach now ties legendary section five coach from East High, Sal Rizzo, with his ninth sectional title. Schott has hinted that this might be his last year.

The Lyons Class C champions went head-to-head last night with Class CCC champs from LeRoy, and squeaked by 55-54.

Next up: Lyons against Class CC Champs - The Marion Black Knights.

The game will be tomorrow night in Newark at 7 p.m.

The winning team advances to Saturday's state quarterfinals.
