Exhibit closing soon at Arcadia Museum
'Cartons, Couches, Canneries & Tinware: The Diversity of Early Manufacturing in Newark, N.Y.' opened on March 23, 2002. The museum is open Saturdays, from 1-3 p.m. and by appointment. It is located at 120 High St. (across from the library). Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted. The exhibit features photographs and many artifacts from six long-time Newark companies: Bloomer Bros. (folding cartons), Hallagan Manufacturing (upholstered furniture, founded in 1900 and still going strong), Reed Manufacturing (tinware and enamelware), Edgett-Burnham Co. (formerly Wayne County Preserving Co.), Comstock Canning and Perfection Canning. In addition, several other displays will soon close - Colacino's Rose Bowl Lanes, Newark Cigar Boxes and a Trotter Refrigerator Co. ice box. Information on the next special exhibits will be forthcoming. Museum tours can be arranged for any size group - class and family reunions, clubs, school classes. Please call for information 331.6409. The Museum Open House takes place June 14-15 (10 to 5 daily), during Newarkfest. Several historic slide and video presentations will be held during the spring.
